When people come on to your Marae there are 4 questions that people would like to ask...
Who is the Boss? Ko wai to Rangatira? (Ariki)
What are the rules? He aha te tikanga?
What happens if I don't like them? Can I change your mind?
What happens if I do like them?
A visitor would not tell you their Pepeha at your Marae if they do not agree with you or your behaviour. Your Pepeha is a way to identify who you are.
"Kāore te kumara e kōrero mō tōna ake reka"
The kumara (sweet potato) does not say how sweet he is
This proverbs accentuates the the value of humbleness.
Our Pepeha is tapu - really special and important.
