Poutama is on the land (tama related to the land). Poutama also means staircase or steps.

It is about your ancestry.

We are all one step in our family/whakapapa staircase. Every step in the staircase represents a family member. This staircase is Poutama.

Poutama means whakapapa and knowledge.

Each step in the Poutama represents more achieved knowledge milestones (e.g. 1+1=2 is a step).

Some steps are steeper than others and they represent challenging milestones/goals.

Overcoming these steep steps is a genuine Ka mau te wehi moment. Our steep steps are challenges that we find difficult to overcome. Ka mau te wehi moments are generally transformational
